Twice Weekly Health Unit COVID-19 Update: Tuesday, May 24th, 2022

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 163 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.

NOTE: The Health Unit now only releases COVID-19 Public Health Updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Of these 163 new high risk cases:

• 56 were reported on May 20
• 40 were reported on May 21
• 33 were reported on May 22
• 8 were reported on May 23
• 26 were reported on May 24

Active Cases

There are 84 high-risk cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 16 active high-risk cases).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s COVID-19 vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

• 357,610 people locally have received one dose of a vaccine (+76 doses)
• 346,345 people locally have received a 2nd dose of a vaccine (+120 doses)
• 197,194 people locally have received a 3rd dose of a vaccine (+225 doses)
• 27,969 people locally have received a 4th dose of a vaccine (+1351 doses)

Vaccination Percentages

• 86.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent)
• 83.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent)
• 52.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.1 per cent)

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 623.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 29 hospitalizations today (increase of 4), and 6 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (increase of 2).
