Twice Weekly Health Unit COVID-19 Update: Tuesday, May 17th, 2022

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 229 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.

NOTE: The Health Unit now only releases COVID-19 Public Health Updates on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Of these 229 new high risk cases:

  • 77 were reported on May 13
  • 41 were reported on May 14
  • 47 were reported on May 15
  • 32 were reported on May 16
  • 32 were reported on May 17

Active Cases

There are 147 high-risk cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 3 active high-risk cases).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s COVID-19 vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

  • 357,495 people locally have received one dose of a vaccine (+98 doses)
  • 346,159 people locally have received a 2nd dose of a vaccine (+154 doses)
  • 196,838 people locally have received a 3rd dose of a vaccine (+260 doses)
  • 25,406 people locally have received a 4th dose of a vaccine (+2,224 doses)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 86.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent)
  • 83.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent)
  • 51.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.1 per cent)

Deaths

The Health Unit announced 3 additional deaths from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 623:

  • One woman in her 70s from the community
  • One woman in her 80s from the community
  • One man in his 80s from a long-term care home

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 26 hospitalizations today (decrease of 6), and 3 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (increase of 2).
