Twice Weekly Health Unit COVID-19 Update: Thursday, May 26th, 2022

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 35 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.

NOTE: This will be the final COVID-19 Public Health Update issued by the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. The Local Data section of the Health Unit’s website will continue to be updated every Thursday with COVID-19 information.

Of these 35 new high risk cases:

• 22 were reported on May 25
• 13 were reported on May 26

Active Cases

There are 25 high-risk cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 59 active high-risk cases).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s COVID-19 vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

• 357,658 people locally have received one dose of a vaccine (+48 doses)
• 346,427 people locally have received a 2nd dose of a vaccine (+82 doses)
• 197,330 people locally have received a 3rd dose of a vaccine (+136 doses)
• 28,807 people locally have received a 4th dose of a vaccine (+838 doses)

Vaccination Percentages

• 86.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent)
• 84.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent)
• 52.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of < 0.1 per cent)

Deaths

The Health Unit announced two additional deaths from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to at 625. They say a man in his 80s from the community and a woman in her 80s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 29 hospitalizations today, and 6 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU.
