Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update From The Weekend

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 253 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit does not report case counts and statistics on weekends but provides a weekend summary. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.

Total Cases & Active Cases

Of these new high risk cases:

• 96 were reported on March 26th
• 83 were reported on March 27th
• 74 were reported on March 28th

Total overall cases increased from 39,384 on Friday, March 25th to 39,636 on Monday, March 28th.

There are 313 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 21 active cases since Friday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

• 356,317 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+111 since Friday)
• 343,786 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+334 since Friday)
• 192,619 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+514 since Friday)

Vaccination Percentages

• 86.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since Friday)
• 83.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since Friday)
• 50.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.2 per cent since Friday)

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 592.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 38 hospitalizations today (increase of 4), and 3 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU.

  • Under outbreak since March 17th, 2022
  • 2 total cases
  • Windsor Regional officials said in a news release that a visitor visited a patient in the hospital and removed their mask while with them. The visitor later tested positive for COVID-19 and unfortunately passed on the infection to two patients in the same room, leading to an outbreak declaration for the 8 East floor at the Ouellette Campus.
