Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 88 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday. The Health Unit now only reports high-risk cases as testing eligibility is still limited.

Total Cases & Active Cases

Total overall cases increased from 37,693 on Tuesday, March 1st to 37,780 on Wednesday, March 2nd.

There are 277 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 18 cases since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

  • 355,569 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+113 since yesterday)
  • 341,412 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+215 since yesterday)
  • 188,914 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+252 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 86.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 82.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 53.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 579. They say a man in his 80s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit 41 hospitalizations today (decrease of 11), and 5 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU.
