Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 37 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday. Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore has estimated actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only.

Total Cases & Active Cases

Total overall cases increased from 38,152 on Monday, March 7th to 38,189 on Tuesday, March 8th.

There are 227 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 29 cases since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

  • 355,725 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+33 since yesterday)
  • 341,914 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+58 since yesterday)
  • 189,704 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+58 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 86.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 82.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 53.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)

Deaths

The Health Unit announced two additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 583. They say a man in his 80s from the community passed away, and a man in his 90s from a long-term care or retirement home passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 27 hospitalizations today (decrease of 2), and 5 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (increase of 1).
