Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 79 new high risk cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday. Testing is still limited to high risk individuals only the province estimates actual COVID-19 cases are around 10 times higher than what is being reported.
Total Cases & Active Cases
Total overall cases increased from 39,213 on Wednesday, March 23rd to 39,295 on Thursday, March 24th.
There are 338 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 27 active cases since yesterday).
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).
- 356,206 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+30 since yesterday)
- 343,452 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+63 since yesterday)
- 192,105 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+145 since yesterday)
Vaccination Percentages
- 86.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 83.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
- 50.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)

Deaths
The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 592. They say a man in his 80s from the community passed away.
Hospitalizations
The Health Unit lists 34 hospitalizations today (increase of 8), and 4 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (increase of 1).

Hospital Outbreaks
- Windsor Regional Hospital – Ouellette – 8E
- Under outbreak since March 17th, 2022
- 2 total cases
- Windsor Regional officials said in a news release that a visitor visited a patient in the hospital and removed their mask while with them. The visitor later tested positive for COVID-19 and unfortunately passed on the infection to two patients in the same room, leading to an outbreak declaration for the 8 East floor at the Ouellette Campus.
