Prescribed burning is planned for Thursday on approximately 17 hectares (42 acres) of Phragmites within the Collavino Wetland, located within the dyked wetland impoundment near the mouth of the Canard River.

The prescribed burn is being undertaken as part of a collaborative effort involving the Essex Region Conservation Authority, Wildfire Specialists Inc. and Dover Agri-Serve Inc.

Prescribed fire is used to remove the above-ground dead standing biomass of monocultural stands of Phragmites, allowing for subsequent treatment, typically herbicide application of the new growth later in the growing season.

Tentative ignition time will be sometime after 11am. Neighbouring landowners have been advised
