Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update From The Long Weekend

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 271 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the long weekend. The Health Unit does not report case counts and statistics on weekends but provides a weekend summary. The Health Unit only reports high-risk cases as testing eligibility is still limited.

Total Cases & Active Cases

Of the 271 new high risk cases:

  • 103 were reported on February 19th
  • 69 were reported on February 20th
  • 33 were reported on February 21st
  • 66 were reported on February 22nd

Total overall cases increased from 36,879 on Friday, February 18th to 37,150 on Tuesday, February 22nd.

There are 305 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 25 cases since Friday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

  • 355,024 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+153 since Friday)
  • 340,011 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+689 since Friday)
  • 186,661 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+1,605 since Friday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 86.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since Friday)
  • 82.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.2 per cent since Friday)
  • 53.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.2 per cent since Friday)

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 573.

The Health Unit 34 hospitalizations today (increase of 1), and 7 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU (decrease of 1).
