Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 73 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday. The Health Unit only reports high-risk cases as testing eligibility is still limited.

Total Cases & Active Cases

Total overall cases increased from on 36,726 on Wednesday, February 16th to 36,799 on Thursday, February 17th.

There are 481 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 42 cases since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

  • 354,797 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+92 since yesterday)
  • 339,165 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+230 since yesterday)
  • 184,876 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+340 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 86.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 82.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 52.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 573. They say a man in his 80s from a long-term care or retirement home passed away.

The Health Unit 37 hospitalizations today (decrease of 6), and 8 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU.
