Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 202 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday. The Health Unit now only reports high-risk cases as testing eligibility is still limited.

New & Total Cases

Total overall cases increased from 33,688 on Tuesday January 25th to 33,688 on Wednesday January 26th

There are 2,268 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 783 cases since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

• 351,786 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+196 since yesterday)
• 332,257 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+375 since yesterday)
• 173,197 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+901 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

• 85.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
• 80.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
• 49.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 18+) have received a 3rd dose/booster (increase of 0.3 per cent since yesterday)

The Health Unit announced 1 additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 539. They say a man in his 100s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 114 hospitalizations today (decrease of 3), and 16 of those hospitalizations are in the ICU.
