Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Friday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 209 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Friday.

NOTE: As of Monday January 24th, 2022, the Health Unit says their daily COVID-19 update will be released later in the day.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 5 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 14 cases are community acquired, 9 cases are outbreak related, 4 cases are travel related, and the acquisition sources of 177 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 32,584 on Thursday January 20th to 32,793 on Friday January 21st.

There are 3,563 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 281 cases since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex).

• 351,402 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+308 since yesterday)
  • 21,587 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-142 since yesterday)
  • 329,815 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+450 since yesterday)
  • 168,608 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+1,220 since yesterday)
• A total of 849,825 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+1,978 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

• 80.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 85.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
• 75.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.2 per cent since yesterday)
  • 79.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
• 38.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 0.2 per cent since yesterday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 28,705 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 489 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 525. They say a man in his 80s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 126 hospitalizations today: 111 people in acute care, and 15 people in the ICU (increase of 1) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
