The Health Unit released some vaccination updates Wednesday afternoon.
On December 18th, 2021, the Ontario Ministry of Health made recommendations to preserve the limited availability of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to only those identified for a preferential dose of the vaccine.
There is now currently a stable supply of the adult Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine across the province, and the Ministry of Health has now eliminated this requirement. Effective immediately, individuals aged 30 years and older will be able to receive the Pfizer at any vaccination site. Either mRNA vaccine will provide a high level of protection against COVID-19 and the Omicron variant.
In addition, all mass vaccination sites are now accepting walk-ins for first, second, or third doses. To avoid lines, appointments continue to be recommended but are not necessary to receive a dose.
