The new Welcome Centre Shelter for Women & Families revived a donation Tuesday to create a new playground in their new home.

In November, the Welcome Centre Shelter for Women and Families was nominated to pitch their “ask” to 100 Women Who Care members.

The Welcome Centre Shelter for Women and Families asked the members to assist in creating a play area for children at their new location at 500 Tuscarora that is set to open in March of 2022.

Currently, the area is a grass area but, in the spring, will begin to transform into a gated, safe space for children and their families to enjoy and engage in play. The pitch pulled on the heartstrings of the members, and they were chosen as the charity for the November 2021 meeting.

100 Women Who Care Windsor/Essex donated $15,000 towards the new playground. The women donated $10,000, and one member wanted to do more and donated an additional $5,000.

This marks the largest cheque donated to a charity by 100 Women Who Care Windsor/Essex in its’ 9 years of serving the community.

“Our donations are making a difference, and our virtual meeting format has allowed us to connect to local charities to our members by bringing in the video format that allows the charities to visually share their story. In 2021, 100 Women Who Care Windsor/Essex has donated over $44,000 to support children experiencing homelessness, feeding the hungry and providing beds for children in our community,” said Maureen Lucas, Co-Founder of 100 Women Who Care Windsor/Essex.

Since the inception of 100 Women who Care and 100 Men Who Give A Damn, it has donated over $540,000 to local charities across Windsor-Essex.
