Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update From The Weekend

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 255 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit does not report case counts and statistics on weekends but provides a weekend summary.

New & Total Cases

Of the 255 new cases: 73 cases were reported on December 18th, 96 cases were reported on December 19th, and 86 cases were reported on December 20th.

The Health Unit says 79 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 62 cases are community acquired, 3 cases are outbreak related, and the acquisition sources of 111 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 23,206 on Friday December 17th to 23,461 on Monday December 20th.

There are 607 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 45 since Friday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 342,150 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+843 since Friday)
    • 20,754 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+347 since Friday)
    • 321,396 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+496 since Friday)
    • 74,986 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+9,784 since Friday)
  • A total of 738,532 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+11,123 since Friday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 78.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.2 per cent since Friday)
    • 82.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.2 per cent since Friday)
  • 73.3 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since Friday)
    • 77.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since Friday)
  • 17.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 2.3 per cent since Friday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 22,371 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 300 resolved cases since Friday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 483.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 34 hospitalizations today: 26 people in acute care (increase of 1), and 8 people in the ICU (decrease of 6) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
