Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 84 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 15 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 15 cases are community acquired, 2 cases are outbreak related, 2 cases are travel related, and the acquisition sources of 50 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 23,524 on Tuesday December 21st to 23,608 on Wednesday December 22nd.

There are 540 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 10 since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 342,890 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+368 since yesterday)
    • 21,006 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+134 since yesterday)
    • 321,884 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+234 since yesterday)
    • 86,518 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+6,329 since yesterday)
  • A total of 751,292 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+6,931 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 78.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 83.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 73.4 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 78.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 19.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 1.4 per cent since yesterday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 22,581 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 91 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced three additional deaths from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 487. They say a man in his 50s from the community, a man in his 60s from the community, and a man in his 70s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 38 hospitalizations today: 27 people in acute care (increase of 6), and 11 people in the ICU (increase of 3) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
