Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 96 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 28 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 17 cases are community acquired, 3 cases are outbreak related, and the acquisition sources of 48 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 22,894 on Tuesday December 14th to 22,990 on Wednesday December 15th.

There are 636 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 39 since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 340,745 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+289 since yesterday)
    • 20,326 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+96 since yesterday)
    • 320,419 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+193 since yesterday)
    • 57,338 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+3,585 since yesterday)
  • A total of 718,502 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+4,067 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 77.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 82.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 73.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 77.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 13.0 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 0.8 per cent since yesterday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 21,871 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 56 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 bringing the local death toll to 483. They say a woman in her 80s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 37 hospitalizations today: 23 people in acute care (increase of 3), and 14 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
