Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 109 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 36 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 24 cases are community acquired, 1 case is outbreak related, 2 cases are travel related, and the acquisition sources of 46 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 22,990 on Wednesday December 15th to 23,099 on Thursday December 16th.

There are 654 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 18 since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 341,056 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+311 since yesterday)
    • 20,414 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+88 since yesterday)
    • 320,642 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+223 since yesterday)
    • 61,206 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+3,868 since yesterday)
  • A total of 722,904 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+4,402 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 77.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 82.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 73.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 77.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 13.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 0.9 per cent since yesterday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 21,962 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 91 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 483.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 41 hospitalizations today: 31 people in acute care (increase of 8), and 10 people in the ICU (decrease of 4) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
