Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Friday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 107 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Friday.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 26 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 15 cases are community acquired, 2 cases are outbreak related, 1 case is travel related, and the acquisition sources of 63 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 23,099 on Thursday December 16th to 23,206 on Friday December 17th.

There are 652 cases of COVID-19 currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 2 since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

• 341,307 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+251 since yesterday)
  • 20,407 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-7 since yesterday)
  • 320,900 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+258 since yesterday)
  • 65,202 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+3,996 since yesterday)
• A total of 727,409 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+4,505 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

• 77.9 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 82.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
• 73.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 77.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 5+) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
• 14.8 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 0.9 per cent since yesterday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 22,071 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 109 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 483.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 41 hospitalizations today: 25 people in acute care (decrease of 6), and 14 people in the ICU (increase of 4) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
