Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 17 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 8 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 4 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 5 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 20,705 on Monday November 8th to 20,722 on Tuesday November 9th.

They say 177 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 9 since yesterday).

Variants of Concern

  • 1,840 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7)
  • 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta variant (B.1.351)
  • 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma variant (P.1)
  • 3,062 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta variant (B.1.617.2)
  • 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa variant (B.1.617.1)

The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 326,534 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+167 since yesterday)
    • 14,945 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-85 since yesterday)
    • 311,589 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+252 since yesterday)
    • 7,138 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+371 since yesterday)
  • A total of 645,261 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+800 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 74.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 86.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 71.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 82.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 1.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County presently.

The Health Unit lists 20,079 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 26 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 466.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 10 hospitalizations today: 8 people in acute care (decrease of 1), and 2 people in the ICU (increase of 2) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
