Health Unit COVID-19 Cases & Outbreaks Update For Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 10 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 5 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 1 case is community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 4 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 20,560 on Monday November 1st to 20,570 on Tuesday November 2nd.

They say 178 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 17 since yesterday).

Variants of Concern

  • 1,840 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7)
  • 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta variant (B.1.351)
  • 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma variant (P.1)
  • 2,941 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta variant (B.1.617.2) (increase of 10)
  • 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa variant (B.1.617.1)

The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 325,259 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+180 since yesterday)
    • 15,832 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-149 since yesterday)
    • 309,427 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+329 since yesterday)
    • 5,157 people have received a 3rd dose/booster shot of a vaccine (+58 since yesterday)
  • A total of 639,843 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+567 since yesterday)

Vaccination Percentages

  • 74.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 85.7 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
  • 70.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated (increase of 0.1 per cent since yesterday)
    • 81.5 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) are fully vaccinated (increase of < 0.1 per cent since yesterday)

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County in 2021.

The Health Unit lists 19,928 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 27 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 464.

The Health Unit lists 9 hospitalizations today: 4 people in acute care (decrease of 3), and 5 people in the ICU (decrease of 2) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
