Hello time traveller!!
This article is 911 days old.
The information listed below is likely outdated and has been preserved for archival purposes.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 118 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit no longer reports case counts and statistics on weekends and now provides a weekend summary.

New & Total Cases

Of the 118 new cases: 49 were reported on September 18th, 42 were reported on September 19th, and 27 were reported on September 20th.

The Health Unit says 28 cases are community acquired, 48 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 11 cases are outbreak related, 3 cases are travel related, and the acquisition sources of 28 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 19,201 on Friday September 17th to 19,319 on Monday September 20th.

They say 366 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (decrease of 38 since Friday).

Variants of Concern

The Health Unit says 3,958 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (increase of 56 since Friday).

Variant case strains:

  • 1,834 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha variant (B.1.1.7)
  • 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta variant (B.1.351)
  • 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma variant (P.1)
  • 1,956 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta variant (B.1.617.2) (increase of 56 since Friday)
  • 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa variant (B.1.617.1)

The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.
