The Greater Essex County District School Board has recorded its first COVID-19 case of the school year.
The board is reporting one case in a student at Queen Victoria Public School on Victoria Avenue in Windsor on September 9th.
Greater Essex County District School Board public relations officer Scott Scantlebury says the school community has been notified of the case. “Everyone who is affected has been notified and following the directions of the health unit,” he said.
Scantlebury says the board does not release information about the number of cohorts or students affected by the case.
In a letter to the school community, principal Mark Vitella described the case as a “high–risk exposure“.
“We have been working with the Windsor–Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) by providing lists of students and staff who may have been in contact with the individual,” the letter states. “If you have not been contacted, you or your child (ren) have not been identified as close contacts. The WECHU is contacting any individuals (students and staff) who have an identified high–risk exposure with the confirmed case and will give directions to follow.”
The case at Queen Victoria is the second local case of the school year and the first for the public board. The first local case was reported yesterday at Stella Maris Catholic school in Amherstburg.
