The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has partnered with Transit Windsor on “Destination Vaccination” a program which makes it convenient for residents of Windsor and Essex County to receive a vaccine close to home.
The city bus will transport nursing staff and vaccines to different areas of the City and County, focusing on higher priority neighbourhoods.
While initially the project is considered to be a pilot, with success, the Heath Unit says they hope additional routes and more consistent scheduling will follow
“We are excited about the potential of this partnership to deliver vaccines to areas with lower vaccination rates. Depending on uptake, we are optimistic that this can be continued for the long-term,” said Chief Executive Officer, Nicole Dupuis.
Scheduled stops on Wednesday, August 24th, 2021:
- The area of Wellington Avenue and College Avenue – Parked along University Avenue
- Mic Mac Park (near Prince Road entrance)
On Friday, August 27th, the Bus will be travelling to the county for stops in the Municipality of Leamington. For updates on the buses location, follow the health unit on Facebook and Twitter (@TheWECHU).
