62 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 62 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says 16 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 5 cases are community acquired, 2 cases are outbreak related, and the acquisition sources of 39 cases are still under investigation.

Total overall cases increased from 18,117 on Monday August 30th to 18,179 on Tuesday August 31st.

They say 527 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex (increase of 9 since yesterday).

Variants of Concern

The Health Unit says 2,971 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (increase of 14 since yesterday).

Variant case strains:

  • 1,834 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha / U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7)
  • 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta / South African Variant (B.1.351)
  • 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma / Brazilian Variant (P.1)
  • 957 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta / Indian Variant (B.1.617.2) (increase of 12 since yesterday)
  • 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa / Indian Variant (B.1.617.1)

The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain. The numbers listed are not necessarily correlated to today’s new cases due to the delay.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 300,369 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+439 since yesterday)
    • 26,698 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-141 since yesterday) *
    • 273,671 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+580 since yesterday)
  • A total of 574,040 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+1,019 since yesterday)

* this number is decreasing as people who *only* received their first dose become people with two doses

Vaccination Percentages

  • 68.57 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
    • 79.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
  • 62.48 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated
    • 72.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (ages 12+) are fully vaccinated

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County in 2021.

The Health Unit lists 17,213 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 53 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 439.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 13 hospitalizations today: 9 people in acute care, and 4 people in the ICU (increase of 1) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
