The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced zero new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday.
New Cases
The Health Unit says zero new cases are reported for Wednesday but the net change to the overall local total is a decrease of three cases due to a data cleanup. Their method for reducing the total due to data cleanups involves reducing the current day’s recorded new case count.
Total cases decreased from 16,846 on Tuesday July 13th to 16,843 on Wednesday July 14th due to the cleanup, and 16 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.
Variants of Concern
The Health Unit says 1,986 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date.
Variant case strains:

- 8 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta / Indian Variant (B.1.617.2)
- 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa / Indian Variant (B.1.617.1)
The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain.
They say 3 variants of concern cases are currently active in Windsor-Essex.
