Hello time traveller!!
This article is 1006 days old.
The information listed below is likely outdated and has been preserved for archival purposes.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 3 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County from over the weekend. The Health Unit no longer reports case counts and statistics on weekends and now provides a weekend summary on Mondays.

New & Total Cases

The Health Unit says three new cases are reported from over the weekend but due to a data cleanup, the net change to the overall local total is an increase of one. Their method for correcting the overall local total during data cleanups involves reducing the current day’s recorded new case count, even if there are new cases.

Of the 3 new cases, 0 were reported on July 17th, 2 were reported on July 18th and 1 was reported on July 19th.

Of the 3 new cases, the Health Unit say 1 case is community acquired, 1 case is a close contact of a confirmed case, and 1 case is still under investigation.

Due to the data cleanup, total overall cases increased from 16,846 on Friday July 16th to 16,847 on Monday July 19th, and 14 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

Variants of Concern

The Health Unit says 1,989 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (increase of 1).

Variant case strains:

  • 1,816 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha / U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7) (increase of 1)
  • 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta / South African Variant (B.1.351)
  • 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma / Brazilian Variant (P.1)
  • 10 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta / Indian Variant (B.1.617.2)
  • 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa / Indian Variant (B.1.617.1)

The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain.

They say 3 variants of concern cases are currently active in Windsor-Essex.
