1 New Case Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 1 new case of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday, bringing the local total to 16,846.

New Cases

Cases increased from 16,845 on Monday July 12th to 16,846 on Tuesday July 13th, and 19 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says the acquisition source of the 1 case is still under investigation.

Variants of Concern

The Health Unit says 1,986 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date.

Variant case strains:

  • 1,815 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha / U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7)
  • 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta / South African Variant (B.1.351)
  • 16 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma / Brazilian Variant (P.1)
  • 8 of the total variant cases to date have been the Delta / Indian Variant (B.1.617.2)
  • 2 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa / Indian Variant (B.1.617.1)

The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain.

They say 4 variants of concern cases are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):

  • 279,524 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+676 since yesterday)
    • 68,785 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-2,242 since yesterday) *
    • 210,739 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+2,918 since yesterday)
  • A total of 490,262 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+3,593 since yesterday)

* this number is decreasing as people who *only* received their first dose become people with two doses

Vaccination Percentages

  • 63.81 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
    • 75.6 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (adults) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
  • 48.11 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are fully vaccinated
    • 59.1 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (adults) are fully vaccinated

Note: The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County in 2021.

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 16,391 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 5 resolved case since yesterday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 and the local death toll stands at 436.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 5 hospitalizations of people from Windsor-Essex today: 4 people in acute care (increase of 2), and 1 person in the ICU (decrease of 1) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
