20 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Monday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 20 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Monday, bringing the local total to 16,664.
New Cases
Cases increased from 16,644 on Sunday June 6th to 16,664 on Monday June 7th and 165 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.
The Health Unit says 16 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 3 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition source of 1 case is still being investigated by the Health Unit’s contact tracing staff.
Variants of Concern
The Health Unit says 1,875 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (an increase of 21 identified since yesterday).
Variant case totals:
- 1,725 of the total variant cases to date have been the Alpha / U.K. Variant (B.1.1.7) (increase of 20 today)
- 4 of the total variant cases to date have been the Beta / South African Variant (B.1.351)
- 12 of the total variant cases to date have been the Gamma / Brazilian Variant (P.1)
- 1 of the total variant cases to date has been the Delta / Indian Variant (B.1.617.2)
- 1 of the total variant cases to date has been the Kappa / Indian Variant (B.1.617.1)
The Health Unit says there is a time delay of several days between specimen collection, preliminary screening, and confirmation of a variant case’s strain.
They say 91 variants of concern cases are currently active active in Windsor-Essex.
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today (residents of Windsor-Essex):
- 260,551 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+525 since yesterday)
- 215,557 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (-1,333 since yesterday) *
- 44,994 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+1,858 since yesterday)
- A total of 305,545 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+2,383 since yesterday)
* this number is decreasing as people who *only* received their first dose become people with two doses
Vaccination Percentages
- 59.48 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
- 73.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (18 years of age or older) have received at least one dose of a vaccine
- 10.27 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (all ages) are completely vaccinated
- 13.2 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents (18 years of age or older) are completely vaccinated
The Health Unit says 438,001 people are living in Windsor and Essex County in 2021.

Getting A Vaccine (2nd Dose)

Resolved Cases
The Health Unit lists 16,071 total resolved cases.
That’s an increase of 23 resolved cases since yesterday.
Deaths
There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 today and the local death toll stands at 428.
Hospitalizations
The Health Unit lists 19 hospitalizations of people from Windsor-Essex today: 12 people in acute care, and 7 people in the ICU (decrease of 1 today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
