53 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Monday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 53 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Monday, bringing the local total to 14,438.

New Cases

Cases increased from 14,385 on Sunday April 11th to 14,438 on Monday April 12th and 424 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 19 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 13 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 21 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

The Health Unit says 301 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (an increase of 45 identified since yesterday). Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says 124 of the currently active cases are variants of concern.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

  • 104,925 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+786 since yesterday)
    • 92,465 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+779 since yesterday)
    • 12,460 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+7 since yesterday)
  • A total of 117,385 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+793 since yesterday)

There are two vaccination programs at this time:

  • Mass Vaccination Clinics (Pfizer or Moderna)
    • Adults aged 50 and older living in “hot spot” postal code regions: N8X, N8Y, N9A, N9B, N9C, N8H, or N9Y
    • Adults aged 60 and older living anywhere in Windsor-Essex
    • Vaccination booking is available at this link: https://wait.crowdhandler.com/wechuvaccination
    • Or you can call 226-773-2200 (but the Health Unit says the call centre is only for assisting people who can’t use the website and the call centre has the same access to appointments as what’s shown on the website)
  • Pharmacy Vaccinations (AstraZeneca)

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 13,607 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 56 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 today and the local death toll stands at 407.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 6 hospitalizations today: 1 person in acute care (7 less today), and 5 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
