39 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 39 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday, bringing the local total to 14,234.

New Cases

Cases increased from 14,195 on Wednesday April 7th to 14,234 on Thursday April 8th and 393 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 11 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 8 cases are community acquired, and 20 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

The Health Unit says 198 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (an increase of 38  identified since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

  • 95,879 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine (+3,127 since yesterday)
    • 83,459 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+3,088 since yesterday)
    • 12,420 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+39 since yesterday)
  • A total of 108,229 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+3,096 since yesterday)

There are two vaccination programs at this time:

  • Mass Vaccination Clinics (Pfizer or Moderna)
    • Adults aged 50 and older living in “hot spot” postal code regions: N8X, N8Y, N9A, N9B, N9C, N8H, or N9Y
    • Adults aged 60 and older living anywhere in Windsor-Essex

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 13,436 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 50 resolved cases since yesterday.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 today and the local death toll stands at 405.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 17 hospitalizations today: 12 people in acute care (decrease of 2 today), and 5 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
