59 New Cases Of COVID-19, 1 New Death In Windsor Essex On Saturday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 59 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Saturday, bringing the local total to 13,742.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 13,683 on Friday March 26th to 13,742 on Saturday March 27th and 251 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 13 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 10 cases are community acquired, and 36 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

The Health Unit says 56 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (+1 since yesterday).

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

  • 68,766 people have received at least one dose of a vaccine
    • 56,684 people have received only their first dose of a vaccine (+3,162 since yesterday)
    • 12,082 people have received both doses of a vaccine (+8 since yesterday)
  • A total of 80,848 vaccine doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+3,178 since yesterday)

How To Get A Vaccine

There are two vaccination programs for different age groups at the moment:

  • People 70 years of age and older
    • Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette announced Friday the Health Unit is now accepting booking from a new five year age bracket. She says people aged 70 or older can now book using the Health Unit’s system.

  • People aged 60 or older (AstraZeneca pharmacy pilot)

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 13,089 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 33 resolved cases today.

Deaths

The Health Unit announced one additional death from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 402.  They say a woman in her 60s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 16 hospitalizations today: 11 people in acute care, and 5 people in the ICU (1 less today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
