UPDATED: 21 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Tuesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 21 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Tuesday, bringing the local total to 13,627.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 13,606 on Monday March 22nd to 13,627 on Tuesday March 23rd and 253 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 8 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 2 cases are community acquired, and 11 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Vaccinations

Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:

  • 43,671 people have received only their first dose of the vaccine (+3,276 since yesterday)
  • 12,059 people have received both doses of the vaccine (full series) (no change since yesterday)
  • A total of 67,789 doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+3,276 since yesterday)

Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says 82.8 per cent of those aged 80 or older in Windsor-Essex have been vaccinated so far.

There are two vaccination programs for different age groups at the moment:

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 12,973 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 50 resolved cases today.

Deaths

There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 today and the local death toll stands at 401.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 21 hospitalizations today: 17 people in acute care (3 less today), and 4 people in the ICU (1 less today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
