19 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 19 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Wednesday, bringing the local total to 13,646.
Today’s New Cases
Cases increased from 13,627 on Tuesday March 23rd to 13,646 on Wednesday March 24th and 245 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.
The Health Unit says 5 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 3 cases are community acquired, and 11 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.
Vaccinations
Here’s the Health Unit’s vaccination update for today:
- 46,822 people have received only their first dose of the vaccine (+3,151 since yesterday)
- 12,059 people have received both doses of the vaccine (full series) (no change since yesterday)
- A total of 70,940 doses have been administered to Windsor-Essex County residents (+3,151 since yesterday)

There are two vaccination programs for different age groups at the moment:
- People 75 years of age and older

- People aged 60 or older (AstraZeneca pharmacy pilot)
- Vaccines are available at participating pharmacies in Windsor-Essex.

Resolved Cases
The Health Unit lists 13,000 total resolved cases.
That’s an increase of 27 resolved cases today.
Deaths
There have been no additional deaths from COVID-19 today and the local death toll stands at 401.
Hospitalizations
The Health Unit lists 14 hospitalizations today: 10 people in acute care (7 less today), and 4 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
