7 New Deaths, 171 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Friday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 171 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Friday, bringing the local total to 10,665.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 10,494 on Thursday January 14th to 10,665 on Friday January 15th and 2,721 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 10 cases are outbreak-related, 14 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 4 cases are community acquired, 1 case is travel related outside of North America, and 142 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Recoveries

The Health Unit lists 7,696 total recoveries.

That’s an increase of 245 recoveries today.

Deaths

There have been 7 new deaths from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 248.

The Health Unit says:

• Five are from long-term care and retirement homes
  • A woman in her 60’s
  • Two women in their 80’s
  • A man and a woman in their 90’s
• Two are from the community
  • A man in his 60’s
  • A man in his 70’s

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 121 hospitalizations today: 102 people in acute care (9 more today), and 19 people in the ICU (1 more today) with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
