1 New Death, 53 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex On Thursday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit announced 53 new cases of COVID-19 in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday, bringing the local total to 11,968.

Today’s New Cases

Cases increased from 11,915 on Wednesday January 27th to 11,968 on Thursday January 28th and 821 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 9 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 12 cases are outbreak-related, 6 cases are community acquired, 1 case is travel related outside of North America, and 25 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.

Health Unit CEO Theresa Marentette says 48 cases are currently active at agri-farms and 157 cases are currently active at long-term care and retirement homes.

Resolved Cases

The Health Unit lists 10,843 total resolved cases.

That’s an increase of 164 resolved cases today.

Deaths

There has been one new death from COVID-19 today bringing the local death toll to 304.

The Health Unit says a man in his 70s from the community passed away.

Hospitalizations

The Health Unit lists 89 hospitalizations today: 77 people in acute care (3 less today), and 12 people in the ICU with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex.
