Staff and patients at Windsor Regional Hospital have tested negative for COVID-19 following a recent possible exposure.
Windsor Regional Hospital recommended testing for a total of 28 individuals after the hospital was notified on Sunday, November 8th that four University of Windsor nursing students who tested positive for COVID-19 were doing their clinical placements at the hospital.
The possible exposure affected both locations of Windsor Regional Hospital in units 7West and 6East at the Ouellette Campus, and 8North and 6North at the Met Campus
“All of the in-patient and staff results of the immediate direct contacts/exposure of the positive nursing students on clinical placements came back negative for COVID-19,” reads a statement from the hospital.
Hospital officials say more than 100 staff members also decided to get tested since they felt they may have come in contact with the positive students. The hospital says all of those tests also came back negative.
Of the in-patients who were determined to have had direct contact with the students, only four remain in hospital. The hospital says those patients also tested negative, but additional precautions will remain in place with the patients for the remainder of the 14 day period since exposure, to “err on the side of caution.”
Hospital officials say all other patients who were in the affected units but had no direct contact with the students will be allowed to have visitors again.
All nursing student placements at Windsor Regional will remain suspended until further notice.
