The Catholic School board has dismissed 16 students from Christ the King Catholic Elementary School due to a high risk exposure to COVID-19.

The board says that thirteen of the students were from one class/cohort; an additional three students from a busing cohort were also dismissed.

The board’s website reports the case is from a student.

The school board says that they learned of the exposure on the weekend and informed all affected students that they should not attend school on Monday morning.

“We have been working with the Health Unit by providing lists of students and staff who may have been directly affected. The health unit is contacting any individuals, both students and staff, who may have been affected, and will give directions for them to follow,” said Stephen Fields, Communications Coordinator for the board, said in an email.

The school remains open.

Fields says that a voice message to the entire school community was sent home Sunday afternoon to reassure parents that if they have not been contacted by the health unit, they have not been identified as close contacts and their children may continue attending school as usual. Follow-up letters will be sent home with students when they are dismissed from school on Monday.

“We have advised parents to continue to monitor their children for symptoms of COVID-19 each morning and to keep them at home and call your healthcare provider for further direction if they are ill,” Fields said.
