13 New Cases Of COVID-19, 2 New Outbreaks As Of Friday In Windsor Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has confirmed 13 new cases of COVID-19 as of Friday, bringing the local total to 2,757. They say 2,613 people locally have recovered.

Cases increased from 2,744 on Thursday October 15th to 2,757 on Friday October 16th and 68 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 6 of the cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 2 cases are local health care workers, 1 case is community acquired, 1 case is travel-related to the US, and 3 cases are still being investigated.

There have been no additional deaths due to COVID-19 as of Friday and the local death toll stands at 76.

As of Friday, the Health Unit lists two people as hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Windsor Essex. One hospitalization is listed at Windsor Regional Hospital.

Long-term Care / Retirement Home Outbreaks

The Health Unit says one long-term care home is now under outbreak as of Friday:

  • Regency Park (Windsor) has 1 staff case and 1 resident case

Workplace Outbreaks

As of Friday, the Health Unit says the following workplaces are under outbreak (1 new compared to yesterday):

  • 1 agri-farm (in Kingsville)
  • 1 construction company (in Lakeshore)
  • 1 food & beverage services company (in Kingsville) (newly listed today)

A workplace outbreak is declared when two or more employees test positive for COVID-19 within a reasonable timeline to suspect transmission in the workplace, according to the Health Unit. Officials with the Health Unit have said a workplace will only be named if a threat to the public exists.
