The health unit and other partners  are looking for a space to house an eventual Consumption and Treatment Services site.

According to the Health Unit, the Consumption Treatment and Services site is one of many interventions that aims to meet the needs of people living with substance use dependence and create pathways toward recovery.

These facilities offer clients integrated wrap-around services such as counselling, primary care, opioid-dependency treatment, and other health and social services in addition to providing a safer space for people to consume their substances.

They also aim to reduce isolated substance use, and the improper discarding of substance use equipment such as needles while providing the presence of trained personnel in the event of an overdose.

Chief Executive Officer and Chief Nursing Officer, Theresa Marentette, says that the health unit has been gathering information from people who use substances, learning from sites which are already in operation, and working with its partners to ensure the application is reflective of the needs and concerns of the community.

The health unit hopes to receive multiple submissions and intends to conduct a thorough community consultation to inform the actual site selection and identify concerns to be addressed prior to the site becoming operational.  The document can be found online here.

Interested property managers, building owners, or realtors are also invited to attend an information session taking place on August 28th via web conference, and are asked to RSVP by August 26th.
