A summertime tradition lights up the sky tonight, from a secret location.
It was announced a few weeks back that the annual show postponed from the end of June because of COVID-19, it will occur on August 31st as a made for TV show.
The Detroit Parade Company says that in response to this unprecedented time and public safety as a top priority, the fireworks will not be held over the Detroit River and will not be viewable from the downtown area on either side of the river.
It’s a move officials on this side of the border are happy with.
“The fireworks show is a fantastic tradition that ordinarily draws hundreds of thousands to the area,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “But, this is no ordinary year, so we appreciate the temptation to gather on the river has been removed, and we encourage everyone to enjoy the show safely from home.”
The show is being broadcast on WDIV Channel 4 from 8pm to 10pm.
