The local wins just keep coming after a restaurant owner from Leamington won $100,000 on a Lotto Max ticket.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation says John Phan of Leamington matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the April 10th Lotto Max draw.

Phan, 38, says he started playing the lottery in April. The OLG says he discovered his win when he validated his ticket at a store and the lottery terminal froze.

“The next thing I knew, I was on the phone with OLG,” Phan said. “I started to cry, I was so excited. I called my mom and dad and they were so excited for me that they started to cry too.”

Phan says he plans to use his winnings to pay off his mortgage and invest in his restaurant.

“This win took me by surprise,” Phan said. “I didn’t think winning the lottery would happen to anyone I knew, much less myself.”

Phan says the win was a “huge blessing” at a critical time for his business which was hit hard with the pandemic restrictions.

The winning ticket was purchased at Sam’s Snack N’ Go on Talbot Street in Leamington.

The OLG says their Prize Centre in Toronto recently resumed in-person prize claims for winning ticket holders of $50,000 or more, by appointment only.
