1 Additional Death, 11 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Windsor Essex As Of Wednesday

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has confirmed 11 new cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday, bringing the local total to 1,840. They say 1,230 people locally have recovered.

Cases increased from 1,829 on Tuesday July 14th to 1,840 on Wednesday July 15th.

The Health Unit says 4 of the 11 cases are in the agri-farm sector, and 7 of the cases are in the community.

Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health, announced there has been one additional death due to COVID-19 as of Wednesday bringing the local death toll to 69.  He says a woman in her 70s, positive for COVID-19, who was admitted to hospital due to complications from COVID-19, passed away in hospital.  Windsor-Essex’s most recent, previous death had been reported on June 20th.

The Health Unit says Riverside Place and Augustine Villas remain under outbreak.

Six workplaces are under outbreak as of Wednesday. One manufacturing facility and one agri-farm in Leamington are under outbreak, and four agri-farms in Kingsville are under outbreak.

A workplace outbreak is declared when two or more employees test positive for COVID-19 within a reasonable timeline to suspect transmission in the workplace, according to the Health Unit.
