Windsor’s unemployment rate jumped to 16.7% in May according to Statistics Canada, as hundreds of businesses continue to be closed due to COVID-19.
To compare the rate was 12.9% in April and 10.5% in March when the pandemic first started to hit.
The rate sat at 8.3% in February.
Windsor’s jobless rate represents the entire Windsor-Essex census area.
Overall in Canada, the rate sits at 13.7%, up from 13% in April and 7.8% in March.
