CWATS Launches Photo Contest For Bike Month

Users of the County Wide Active Transportation System are invited to celebrate the trails and pathways of Essex County during a month-long photo contest in June marking Bike Month.

Active transportation users can share their photos of cycling, walking or running, or using the Greenway, a bike lane or a multi-use pathway on social media with the hashtag #CWATS or upload them to the contest page.

The photos will be shared on CWATS and County of Essex social media channels and will be used to promote the CWATS network. Each photo shared constitutes one entry and, at the end of the month, one lucky entrant will be randomly chosen to win a new bicycle valued at $500. Another entrant will be randomly chosen to win a Fitbit.

“Our trail system has enjoyed increased usage during this pandemic because it allows residents to get fresh air and exercise while still following physical distancing protocols,” said Katherine Wilson, CWATS Active Transportation Coordinator. “We are fortunate in Essex County to have so many recreational opportunities and we hope this campaign encourages residents to get outdoors and get active while staying safe.”

The CWATS network spans some 400 km across all seven local municipalities in Essex County and links to trail systems in Windsor and Chatham-Kent. Construction over the next 15 years will see the network of trails, pathways and signed routes expand to about 800 km.
