Windsor Fire and Rescue Services’ Hazmat Team is better equipped and trained after a donation from the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Windsor’s hazmat team is one of three ‘Level 3’ teams in Ontario which encompasses expert technicians specializing in hazardous response for chemical, biological, radioactive, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) incidents throughout Windsor and Essex County, as well as incidents throughout Ontario when required.
Officials say the team requires ongoing training in many areas to stay current with the needs of the community and a donation of $27,200 from CP will help with specialized training and equipment upgrades.
The donation gave Windsor firefighters and hazmat team members the ability to attend a CP Rail training course on rail car emergencies, take specialized training on air monitoring and chemistry, purchase monitoring equipment, and to conduct hazmat specialist level training for four team members.
