The Town of Tecumseh has cancelled the annual Taste of Tecumseh Food and Wine Festival event scheduled for June 12th and 1th3, 2020.

“We continue to look at upcoming events and talk with our community partners to address both exposure to the virus and resources to deliver these event. Our public health unit stresses following physical distancing to keep our communities healthy and we are following these recommendations,” said Gary McNamara, Mayor of Tecumseh.

“I am not happy that we have to continue to cancel community celebrations and events that our residents look forward to enjoying every year but it’s necessary for the health and well-being of Tecumseh. I continue to encourage residents to do what they are doing—stay home, spend time in your backyards, go for walks but avoid touching surfaces and being in groups of people”.

This year would have marked the sixth annual Taste of Tecumseh Festival, hosted by the Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach. The Festival is one of the major fundraising events hosted by the Optimist Club. The funds raised at the Festival help to support community initiatives throughout the year including the Victoria Day Fireworks display, Family Fun Fair, Free recreational skates and swim, as well as contributions towards local charitable organizations including The Hospice of Windsor & Essex County and Windsor & Essex County Crime Stoppers.

“The members of the Optimist Club are proud to service the community through the various events and fundraisers we coordinate throughout the year,” said Richard Zarour, President of the Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach. “The St. Clair Beach Optimist Club is a community organization that promotes an active interest in good government and civic affairs and as such we need to do our part during this health crisis”.

The Town of Tecumseh and Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach will look to reschedule the event once restrictions are lifted.
