UPDATED: One New COVID-19 Death As Of Thursday Afternoon, 427 Total Local Cases

The Health Unit has confirmed an additional death as of Thursday afternoon. They say male in his seventies passed away in long-term care. To date, eleven of the eighteen deaths related to COVID-19 in the Windsor-Essex Region were residents from four long-term care facilities.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit confirmed 19 additional cases of COVID-19 as of Thursday morning, bringing the local total to 427.

The Health Unit also reported one new death in Windsor-Essex on Thursday morning. Dr. Wajid Ahmed said the death was a female in her 80s with multiple pre-existing conditions. He said the woman was not from a long-term care home.

Cases increased from 408 reported on Wednesday April 15th to 427 on Thursday April 16th.

The Health Unit says 2,936 tests have been conducted as of Thursday and 357 tests are still pending. They say 55 people locally have recovered.

The Health Unit is currently monitoring ongoing outbreaks at seven local long-term care and retirement homes including: AMICA, Sun Parlour, Lifetimes on Riverside, Franklin Gardens, Extendicare Southwood Lakes, Heron Terrace, and Country Village Homes.
