The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is asking more business to close as they continue to fight the threat of COVID-19.

Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health for Windsor-Essex announced late Friday that he strongly recommends that the following non-essential facilities close immediately:

  • Retail stores including those that sell clothing and apparel, books, home décor
  • Personal Service Settings including hair salons, day spas, tattoo parlours, nail salons

Dr. Ahmed says the recommendations will be followed by an official order on Monday, March 23rd.

The recommendations and order come after the Health Unit fielded hundreds of calls, emails and concerns from the public related to various businesses open to the public.

“In order to strengthen the measures that are put in place to reinforce social distancing and limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community, we must act together and close these non-essential stores and businesses until April 5th, 2020,” says Dr. Ahmed.
