The cause of a blaze in an empty former factory on McDougall Avenue is listed as accidental.

Crews were called to the corner of McDougall and Elliott around 10:10am for reports of smoke coming from the building.  Fire crews worked quickly to open holes in the side of the structure to provide ventilation.

Windsor Fire officials said the building was the former Chrome Shield factory.

The fire was officially out as of 12:45pm.  There are no injuries reported.

An investigation revealed the fire was accidentally started by homeless people living in the second floor offices.

The fire caused $100,000 in damages.
